"National Engineers Week at
the University of Delaware"
2008 marks the 57th year for the national celebration
The University of Delaware (UD), College of Engineering (COE) will participate in the 2008 National Engineers Week, February 17 through February 23, 2008. Founded in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers, National Engineers Week is celebrated annually by thousands of engineers, engineering students, teachers, and leaders in government and business. The National Engineers Week consortium includes more than 100 engineering, scientific, and education societies, and major corporations dedicated to increasing public awareness and appreciation of engineering. A new national program, “Connecting Educators to Engineering,” will target up to 10,000 middle school teachers with a coordinated push to train engineers to directly interact with educators, provide needed learning materials, and create an online forum for educator and engineer interaction.
The Engineers Week 2008 co-chairs are Chinese Institute of Engineers-USA and IBM. CIE-USA is especially interested in reaching a broad spectrum of students and practitioners in diverse communities, especially those that are underrepresented in our field. CIE-USA and their co-chair IBM share a strong commitment to diversity and a global vision. For other national programs view the following URL: www.eweek.org
